THOMAS HOUSTON associates, inc. has applied 30 years of experience in the areas of EEO, Affirmative Action, and Human Resources to the development of our training programs.  Consistent application of knowledge gained through conducting compliance evaluations throughout the country ensures that our training programs remain current with the “hot issues” in these areas.  We can provide comprehensive training programs tailored to fit the culture of your company.

Our programs utilize a variety of training tools, such as PowerPoint presentations, video tapes, and effective handout material that employees may retain for future reference.

Based on the selected programs, the following topics will be covered:

  • Writing an Effective Affirmative Action Plan - How to develop and implement an effective affirmative action program.

  • Employment Processes Training – Programs that cover the selection, disciplinary, and related processes directed at eliminating the potential for bias and ensure that the affirmative action program is properly implemented.

  • Record keeping and Documentation Process (i.e. employee files).

  • Diversity & Organization – When properly understood and leveraged, diversity can be an organization’s greatest asset.  This program focuses on the impact of changing demographics on the effectiveness of an organization and on how diversity goes beyond issues of race and gender.  Participants learn to understand that new communication and leadership skills are necessary in managing diversity while learning to identify biases and stereotypes.

  • Direct Dealing - AA/EEO – The focus of this program is on a pro-active approach to Equal Employment and Affirmative Action regulations.  The EEO Game is utilized to highlight ordinary business situations and to illustrate how current legislation can impact everyday decision-making.  Participants will review current federal EEO legislation and learn procedures for addressing EEO complaints and charges.

  • Interviewing Within the Law – This interactive program enables participants to review and consider their interviewing technique and to evaluate commonly asked interview questions based on EEO standards.  Participants will learn how to plan all interviews carefully by describing the specific job and performance skills required for the position creating an objective interviewing process.

  • Performance Planning & Process Management – In today’s workplace, it is critical that all members of the team contribute to the achievement of the organization’s goals. Performance planning including the establishment of performance objectives is critical to this process.  This program provides participants with the skills necessary to effectively leverage the components of the performance management process, including performance plans and appraisals.  Participants will learn the components of the performance management cycle.  They will also understand how to gain employee involvement and commitment to the process and goals/objectives, and methods for diminishing the emotion related to performance management.

  • Coaching and Counseling – Participants learn to use interpersonal skills and the coaching process to assist in achieving success through performance improvement and/or behavioral changes.  By using the ongoing process of coaching, managers help employees to continue to refine and improve their performance and level of contribution.
